PHOTOGRAPHER
Tom has been interested in photography ever since his father gave him a camera in grade seven. After spending the next eight or so years practicing and exploring styles and ideas, Tom has gradually moved to a more refined style in the last few years. Tom aims to use minimalistic principles in his photographic style, whilst trying to invoke subjective feelings with his work. Tom enjoys exploring both film and digital photography mediums and these images he presents at COZY. make up a combination of both.
Tom’s work explores broad and subjective interpretations of what it means to be cozy. Using associations of the word and what it feels like, Tom has played with feelings of nostalgia, spirituality, tranquillity, warmth, and connection to produce an overall sense of comfort and therefore cosiness. He has also paired this with associations that would otherwise not reflect the term ‘cozy’- a sense of a cold eeriness and discomfort using darker and monochromatic imagery as a way of challenging visual conventions that would normally reflect the theme
