Sam Sae-Sue is building fantastical worlds through his print works. Using computer graphics and fine art Giclée prints his goal is to create a panorama of works based on his personal self contained mythos- A cornucopia of horror and hope. From wizard gods floating in stasis to world ending sagas set in the future past, each work is almost archival in its nature. Documenting the folly of mortals and gods in this science fantasy world where the lines between science, magic and love mingle. Blending Asian art styles of the past with Western Sci-Fi Surrealism Sam Sae-Sue is determined to warp you to the distant past and peer into a forbidden future.

Sam Sae-Sue is an Asian illustrator based in Melbourne who builds fantastical worlds through his printed works. Using computer graphics and fine art Giclée prints, his goal is to create a panorama of works based on his personal fantasy worlds, sci-fi iconography and the epic myths of South-East Asian and Nordic lore. From wizard gods floating in stasis, to world-ending sagas set in the future past, each work is designed to be pseudo-archival in nature. Each series of images ‘historically’ documents the folly of mortals and gods in their science fantasy worlds.

By blending classical Asian art styles with the Western pulp and cult literature cover style illustrations of the ‘70s, his hope is to create a sense of nostalgia for the unsung art heroes and stories of yesteryear. The three selected works tell of the mythological living blade Zurendal, the god splitter. The prints depict the sacking of an ancient palace in the desperate search for the blade, a historic battle with the blade in use by a heroine, and her tragic fall many years later in a magical duel for final possession of Zurendal.

It is Sam's hope that these works and their otherworldly provenance, transport the audience to the distant past. This leads the viewer to question what differentiates a myth, a legend  and historical fact.
