  • Angela Walsh an artistic activist and a strengths and values-based practitioner. Walsh is interested in how to communicate the complexity of social change for the prevention of family violence and sexual violence, gender equality and anti-racism through art using mixed media, specifically collage, photography, and text. Walsh appropriates images found in old magazines and books along with her original photography related to create powerful and humorous ways to engage individuals in social change.

    Walsh has worked as an activist, project manager, mentor and leader for the last 20 years and has led and managed major multi-year International, National and State and Territory projects driving intersectional systemic change around gender-based violence, gender equality and anti-racism. Walsh has worked with UNICEF, the United Nations, and INGO’s in Timor-Leste, Indonesia, and Thailand and with National, State and Territory Governments and NGO’s across Australia.

    Walsh lives and works in Naarm, Australia and works with Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative on Waddawurrung Country. She is currently completing her Diploma in Visual Arts at NCAT. Angela respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri peoples of the Woi Wurrung language group, honouring their Ancestors, Elders and next generations of community.

  • This work emerged as a response to watching the Barbie Movie (2023). ‘Astronaut Barbie And Ida Ending Rape Culture’ imagines a world where Astronaut Barbie is an intersectional abolitionist feminist with the power to make real change. Barbie's mission is to create a planet free from rape culture. Using new technological advances, she brings Ida B. Wells back to work alongside her. This series tells their story.
